i-71 southbound near the ridge road exit is back open after being shut down for a few hours last night due to an accident. 3 cars were involved in that crash... emergency crews say one person was trapped... and suffered minor injuries. the accident remains under investiagion but investigators believe alcohol may be a factor. all lanes were re- opened around 5 o'clock this morning. the east coast is finally getting a break from snow. snow is supposed to stop sometime this morning. nearly 85 million people are affected by the storm that hit the east coast. one of the hardest hit areas is washington d.c. where the cities mayor said 300 9-1-1 calls were answered on friday night alone. "this is an emergency event, and we are very much still in our emergency response phase." at least 18 people have died from the

last april. hyland grew up in clifton and indian hill... and graduated from u- c. well it wouldn't be january without the annual mascot broom-ball game downtown! take a look at the scene on fountain square yesterday. mister red, rosie red, big boy... you name it! everyone faced off with team "super sweepers" against team "legion of the broom." all your favorite local mascots came out for the event, putting on a show for everyone who watched. this was the seventh year of the event.

police are still trying to track down three inmates who broke out of jail in california. officials in orange county jail discovered that they were missing friday night. they were facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and torture. the sheriff's office says the escapees got to the roof by cutting through steel bars and plumbing tunnels. they used sheets to rapel to the ground and then taking off. weather now

caught up with him once he finally made it home...and this story. saturday's snow did more than put a halt to flights across the midwest. it also put a stop to drivers traveling on i-75. "once i got to the london exit, it was all backed up. you couldn't even get off. and i maybe went a mile beyond that and we just came to a halt." vern wooten was traveling from atlanta back to loveland. he says he wait on i-75 for 15 hours. "it was still really snowing hard and it really picked up the snow. that was probably the big thing, for probably the next 5 or 6 hours it really came down and it got realty deep on the interstate while we were sitting there." wooten says he pass the time emailing, surfing the web, and posting on facebook until traffic started to move again. but it was during that time he says something kind happened amid the snowy chaos. "there was a local family that came out and were bringing bottles of

and just giving them to people because they were stranded." wooten says the area was pretty remote and the snow was deep. north korea accused of carrying out a "hostile act" against the government there otto warmbier was detained january second according to a china based travel agency that assisted him on the trip. warmbier is from cincinnati...he was going on the trip to north korea with fellow students from the university of virginia. already, his situation is drawing a lot of criticism in the political realm. coast has claimed the lives of at least 14 people... from the carolinas to new york, tens of thousands were without power just last night. chris welch has the latest... an epic and slow moving storm knocked out power for thousands. shut down cities. emptied airports and grounded flights. what's worse -- this historic storm has become deadly -- killing people from north carolina to new york. mayor bill de blasio/new york : "this is bad, and it's getting worse rapidly," nats drivers in several states stranded in cars and trucks on the road. even emergency vehicles having trouble. gov. tom wolf/d pennsylvania : "this is a historic snowstorm, this is a huge challenge" in pennsylvania -- hundreds of cars stranded for 20 hours on the turnpike. including busses of high school students. in central kentucky -- some drivers stuck on the interstate for 19 hours. having to decide whether to stay

almost a thousand people, including police from all over the country were in newark yesterday saying goodbye to danville police officer tom cotrell. flags were also flown at half-staff at public buildings in knox and licking counties.
